    Count the failed zones

    Run two stations manually. One failed station indicates a local circuit. Every failed station indicates a shared supply, common wire, master valve, pump, or controller issue.

    Check controller status

    Look for rain delay, sensor-active, seasonal-off, or an error symbol. Use the exact model manual because bypass controls differ.

    Listen for valve activation

    A click without water suggests a stuck valve, closed flow control, or supply issue. Silence suggests the controller output, field wiring, splice, or solenoid.

    Separate electrical from hydraulic

    If the valve operates manually, focus on the electrical control path. If it does not, focus on the water path and valve internals.

  • The controller has exposed damaged wiring or repeatedly trips power.
  • A master valve or pump relay is involved.
